Working Groups

Working Groups – Opportunities to Collaborate at UXPA 2018

Working groups are great opportunities for experienced UXPA attendees to collaborate on a specific UX topic. The goal of each working group is to advance our knowledge on the topic and to share what the group has learned with the larger community, such as through a journal or magazine article, on a new website, or with a new online community.

What groups will be offered?

This year, we are offering working groups on two topics:

  • Conversational Interfaces – Focusing on approaches and solutions for conversational interfaces (text, voice, etc.) from lightweight consumer experiences  to business applications
  • Design Systems – Focusing on developing and maintaining scalable user experience design systems especially for complex organizations and applications

Who should participate?

Anyone with interest and experience in the topic. Participants are expected to contribute to the group’s work, so they will need to be knowledgeable about the topic. Working groups are not lectures or classes providing training on the topic.

What is involved?

Participants are expected to participate in activities before, during, and after the conference. Before the conference, you will need to submit a position paper to the leaders, sharing your experience and motivation for participating in the group. Leaders will review the position papers and select qualified candidates to participate in the working group. This will help ensure that everyone has the right experience in the topic to be able to participate. There will also be some additional work before the conference.

During the conference, you will participate in a 4-hour collaboration session on Wednesday June 27th from 1:30 – 5:30, where you will work together on your topic.

After the conference, you will continue to collaborate with the group until you have completed your work, for example, when your group publishes an article.

What is the cost to participate?

There is no fee to participate, but you must register either for the full conference or for one day on Wednesday.

How do I get started?

When you register for the UXPA International conference, you will have an opportunity to select the working group you would like to join. The leader(s) of the working group will contact you about the next steps.  Be sure to register by May 31, 2018 so you and the leaders have time to complete the pre-conference work.

Anything else?

We will need a minimum of 6 participants to make each working group viable, and groups will be capped at a maximum of 20. If we don’t have enough people, we will have to cancel the working group. So, share the opportunity with colleagues you think might be interested!
