Universities are often untapped for the research expertise they can provide to create innovation and improve local communities. Yet, the expertise is there, and students crave the applied learning experience. This poster presentation describes a mutually beneficial partnership between a graduate UX class and a local city that focused on sustainable community development. The students helped the city create a more positive image of its community on its website. By solving the challenges of this collaboration, all involved learned a lot along the way. The poster discusses these lessons learned, especially as they relate to founding, building, and managing fruitful university-industry UX research collaborations.
